![]() “The AKO team, under our project director for Enterprise Services, is to be commended for all of its hard work over the years in keeping it ready and available for all to use. “AKO was the first true portal capability for the entire Army and was a mainstay for Soldiers, both in CONUS and worldwide, for many years,” said John Howell, acting deputy program executive officer. PEO EIS leadership remains grateful to those who supported AKO over the years. The Military Technical Solutions (MilTech) team within Enterprise Services’ Enterprise Computing product office is touting its milSuite application - a CAC-enabled platform hosted on milCloud and available to all DOD organizations - as an alternative to AKO for professional networking, e-learning and knowledge sharing on the non-classified network. In the wake of AKO’s departure, another Enterprise Services program has found an opportunity to highlight its offerings to the workforce. During the month after AKO’s shutdown, the EC2M team remained busy performing important behind-the-scenes tasks - removing assets, closing all plans of action and milestones, updating documentation, migrating files and emails, and ensuring that records management requirements were met. In the end, however, the Army’s adoption of cloud computing and newer feature-rich, user-friendly collaborative platforms stole the thunder from AKO, leading to the portal’s gradual defunding. Over 700 applications used AKO addresses to maintain their user databases and provide notifications to users. The system achieved some of its highest usage during the COVID-19 pandemic with over 1.5 million unique visitors monthly. ![]() In 2019, Enterprise Services launched AKO 2.0, a modernized version of the portal that was designed to be mobile-friendly and facilitate collaboration via online communities. They supported the development of the public-facing Army.mil and the “Soldier for Life” site that received national attention on the “Late Show with David Letterman.” AKO was, in fact, the only collaborative hub for individuals working with classified information on the Secret Internet Protocol Router Network.ĪKO engineers were known for sharing their expertise with teams operating other Army organizations’ websites. For the last five years, the classified and non-classified versions of the portal continued to be a place for users to store files and conduct training. While DKO eventually shut down, and Army email accounts were migrated to Defense Enterprise Email in 2013, AKO itself forged on. In 2008, the AKO/DKO project office opened a newly renovated help desk center to serve more Soldiers simultaneously as the portal expanded to more than two million registered users. The following year, Defense Knowledge Online (DKO) was stood up to provide AKO services to the joint warfighting community. In 2005, under AKO product manager Taylor Chasteen, the Army awarded a contract to industry to manage and administer the portal, which by then was used primarily for file storage, document collaboration, directory services, instant messaging, training and email. At that point, the system took off and gradually expanded its capabilities. 11, 2001, the then-Army vice chief of staff declared that all military and civilian employees would be assigned an AKO account for emergency and status messages. Indeed, PEO EIS helped support AKO, an enterprise web portal providing a variety of tools and technologies to users, since its founding as a general officer email system back in 1998. “It’s been a good run,” said Lee James, project director for Enterprise Services. Army Knowledge Online (AKO) may have stopped being accessible to users at the end of June, but PEO EIS’s Enterprise Content Collaboration and Messaging (EC2M) product office - part of EIS’s Enterprise Services portfolio - officially brought the program to a close on July 26.

![]() Therefore, it tends to gain an electron to create an ion with 17 protons, 17 neutrons, and 18 electrons, giving it a net negative (–1) charge. Again, it is more energy-efficient for chlorine to gain one electron than to lose seven. Chlorine (Cl) in its lowest energy state (called the ground state) has seven electrons in its outer shell. If sodium loses an electron, it now has 11 protons, 11 neutrons, and only 10 electrons, leaving it with an overall charge of +1. It takes less energy for sodium to donate that one electron than it does to accept seven more electrons to fill the outer shell. As Figure 1 illustrates, sodium (Na) only has one electron in its outer electron shell. This movement of electrons from one element to another is referred to as electron transfer. Anions are designated by their elemental name being altered to end in “-ide”: the anion of chlorine is called chloride, and the anion of sulfur is called sulfide, for example. ![]() ![]() Negative ions are formed by gaining electrons and are called anions. Cations are positive ions that are formed by losing electrons. Because the number of electrons does not equal the number of protons, each ion has a net charge. This fills their outermost electron shell and makes them energetically more stable. Some atoms are more stable when they gain or lose an electron (or possibly two) and form ions. That doesn’t matter! Also in my opinion the game is unstable for 10 and under, in the levels you push people, and wear clothing which makes me think they have to wear them. So when I download it I thought it we GOOD but it is BADmy little sister came up to me crying saying “when I grow up I don’t want to be ugly and unpopular!” Only being 11 I thought I should see what she was talking about and I was outraged! This game makes people (especially girls) feel like they have to be pretty and popular. You can only be female and I think you should be able to choose between male and female characters and ur love interest ( at the end of each level you kiss a male character) 2.makes children feel insecure about what they look like 3. When I saw the game I thought “it looks good I’ll try it!” But when it finally downloaded it was RUBBISH! Let’s start with the bad: 1. ![]() You better fix this game, and actually, try this time. So if you say, “ oh if you wear glasses in this game you're a nerd!” But what if you just need glasses because you can't see properly?! How about that?! This game has poor quality and performance. No matter what, you are always perfect no matter what you look like. I mean, this type of game isn't exactly perfect. Like, all this game is just “ Be a nerd or be the popular girl” type of game. ![]() ![]() All you do is walk into the right options. Tweak it a bit? In my opinion, ( don't get the wrong idea but, ) this game isn't advised for kids. Make it more kid-friendly, and maybe you should. I don't think you should have ads in your game because kids could get the wrong idea of this game. I am saying this nicely, your game is not a kids game. Whoever made this game, learn to fix your games. I advise you to not download this game if you're under 13. Besides, it has lots of ads that may be inappropriate. You don't have to be pretty and popular to be a “queen bee”. It is laggy, plus it's probably pointing in the wrong directions for kids. Whatever you do, DO NOT download this game. ![]() In 1785, the astronomer William Herschel noted a faint reddish hue in the core region of Andromeda. With an apparent magnitude of 3.4, the Andromeda Galaxy is among the brightest of the Messier objects, and is visible to the naked eye from Earth on moonless nights, even when viewed from areas with moderate light pollution. The Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies are expected to collide in around 4–5 billion years, merging to potentially form a giant elliptical galaxy or a large lenticular galaxy. The Andromeda Galaxy has a diameter of about 46.56 kpc (152,000 ly), making it the largest member of the Local Group of galaxies in terms of extension. This has been called into question by early 21st-century studies indicating a possibly lower mass for the Andromeda Galaxy Īnd a higher mass for the Milky Way. The mass of either galaxy is difficult to estimate with any accuracy, but it was long thought that the Andromeda Galaxy was more massive than the Milky Way by a margin of some 25% to 50%. The virial mass of the Andromeda Galaxy is of the same order of magnitude as that of the Milky Way, at 1 trillion solar masses (2.0 ×10 42 kilograms). The galaxy's name stems from the area of Earth's sky in which it appears, the constellation of Andromeda, which itself is named after the princess who was the wife of Perseus in Greek mythology. Andromeda has a diameter of about 46.56 kiloparsecs (152,000 light-years) and is approximately 765 kpc (2.5 million light-years) from Earth. Available for Windows, Mac and Linux, Scribus takes an InDesign-like approach in terms of frames and layers, and packs in some professional-level tools. It’s open source and completely free, plus it also has a good range of features. If cash is short, then Scribus may be the solution you need. Overall, while Xara Page & Layout Designer lacks many features you’ll find in other apps, the upside is that the interface is less cluttered, creating a shorter learning curve. There are no tools for creating tables or graphs, however, so you would need to design those manually and then import them into your documents. Nonetheless, Microsoft Publisher has been a little neglected in recent years. Given the cheap price, it may well even be worth buying it and using it alongside InDesign, as many designers say they find it faster and more efficient for particular tasks.įirst released in 1991, Microsoft's tool for desktop publishing puts more of a focus on page layout and design than you'll find in Microsoft Word, which is squarely focused on text composition and proofing. While there’s no iPad version yet, you can open, edit and export Publisher documents in the iPad version of the other two Affinity apps. But in all honesty, the differences are quite minimal, and if you’ve not spent a lifetime using InDesign, they probably won’t matter to you too much.Ĭrucially, Affinity Publisher allows you to work with Adobe file types, including the ability to import IMDL files, documents created in InDesign. It works on Mac and Windows, and there’s interoperability across all three Affinity apps to allow for a smooth workflow. For example, it lacks document setup presets on launch (although you can find third-party templates for this elsewhere) and the way it works with layers can take some getting used to if you’ve been using InDesign for years. Affinity Designer is, therefore, a close match for Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Photo for Photoshop and, launched in 2019, Affinity Publisher is a direct rival to Adobe InDesign.Īffinity Publisher doesn’t quite match up to InDesign's feature set. They match most of the features of Adobe's software while also including some of their own unique tools. Serif's Affinity range of apps unashamedly offers cheap, subscription-free alternatives to Adobe tools. If your company is paying for that, then no worries, of course, but if you work for yourself, you may want to investigate some of the alternative apps on this list before making your decsion. The one big downside to InDesign is that you need to pay a monthly subscription, either for the single app or as part of an All-Apps subscription to the Creative Cloud. The software is fully integrated into the Creative Cloud, making it easy to pull in Adobe Fonts, Adobe Stock images, and work you’ve created in other Adobe apps, such as Illustrator or Photoshop. In recent years, Adobe has also added lots of useful digital publishing tools, making it a great choice for e-zines, e-books and pretty much anything else you can add an ‘e-’ to. InDesign has been the go-to software for print professionals for over a decade now. It’s perfectly suited to any design work that requires you to combine images and text. If you can afford it I would say go the JawJacker route, hands down it is a great product, but if you are strapped for dough you can build one of these DIY deals for $0-$10. I'm not trying to deter someone from buying the JawJacker, or Automatic Fisherman for that manner. The first picture is of a fish that came on the JawJacker, but all the rest came from the homemade creations. I enjoy making my own fishing gear, and to me using a homemade automatic hook setter is just like catching a fish on a fly I tied. I own one JawJacker, and it still beats the homemade ones for size/compactness, but the DIY versions are just as effective. Part of the reason I still enjoy catching, even with the auto's is that all but one are homemade. One of my fishing buddies says he thinks they take all the fun out of it, but I still have a hoot. It pops, you yell "go get it!" and they run over to fight the fish. You set it up and it's kind of like waiting for Christmas. The times it misses, you simply pick up the rod, drop it back to depth and do things the good old fashioned way. From my experience they get about 50-60%. They can be deadly when a "deadstick" approach is effective, though they do not run a 100% hookup rate. Automatic hook setters take away the need to feel the bite and set the hook at just the right time. Is it cheating? I'm undecided on the topic really. Even if the fish are biting in a way that the auto's are having trouble setting the hook, they still help me know where I need to be fishing. I like to set out 3 or 4 auto's and keep one rod for jigging. The automatic hook setters allow you to place rods a little farther away, cover more water, and identify where the fish are holding. It allows the angler to cover more water, try different baits, and get exercise from running hole to hole for bites. In Idaho you are allowed to ice fish with 5 rods per person. If you can afford the $37.99 price-tag, the JawJacker is the way to go. It is small, lightweight, adjustable, and very effective if you use the right jig. I purchased a JawJacker the beginning of last year's ice season and have been nothing but impressed. The first contraption is a bit more involved, while the second is as simple as they get. The Automatic Fisherman has been around for a while, and more recently (and what has caused a big stir) the JawJacker was produced. These have become quite popular in our little corner of the earth during the past two years. If you are interested in seeing another way of doing this here is the link -> DIY Automatic Hook Setter 2.0 1/7/17 POST EDIT: I have since created a newer version of this build. |
